Spring often makes hobby gardeners feel safe far too soon. The days turn milder, the potted lemon tree looks fit and healthy, and everything seems to signal the start of the season. Then late frost hits - and it frequently arrives not from the air, but quietly from below via a balcony or terrace. One unremarkable item placed beneath the pot interrupts that cold shock and can, quite literally, save the tree.
